About Bi+ Pride Hamburg since 2021
An eager group of bi+ activists is planning the Bi+Pride in Hamburg (2023 third Bi+Pride in Germany): bisexual and pansexual visibility focusing on diversity and international networking! From now on we will inform you about our work on our social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter @bipluspride) and here on our homepage www.bipride.de.
On Social Media we will also gradually introduce in English and German language our organization team and our cooperation partners so that you know who we are. You will also get to know our demands and our diversity and inclusion concept. In addition, we’ll provide you with bi+ knowledge.
Our plan:
MON, 23.9.24 flag raising (Bisexuality Visibility Day)
SAT, 21.9.24 – SUN 24.9.24 workshops
SAT, 28.9.24 demonstration in Hamburg
Our understanding of bi+
Based on the definitions by the Bisexual Research Center (BRC), BiNe – Bisexuelles Netzwerk e. V. and the US-American bi activist Robyn Ochs, we understand bi+ as a community of people who acknowledge the potential of feeling romantically and/or sexually attracted to people of plural genders, not necessarily at the same time, in the same way or degree.
We reject the concept of binary genders and use + to explicitly include all people who identify themselves as bi-curious, pansexual, queer, omnisexual, polysexual, homo-/heteroflexible, asexual and other non- monosexual labels or decide against labelling their sexual identity at all.
We attempt to unite the community, which uses different labels or non-labels, to create a united voice within the LGBTQIA+ scene and society.
Bi+Umbrella
In scientific contexts and activist approaches, the terms bisexuality or bi+community are used as an umbrella term for people of all genders who, romantically and/or sexually, can feel attracted to more than one gender. Hence, all people who are not mono-sexual. (Mono originally comes from the Greek meaning “only“, “single“, “one“ and refers to homo- and heterosexual identities who only feel attracted to one gender.) Some people additionally distinguish between sexual and romantic identity. For instance, identifying with being bisexual and homo-romantic. The suffix “-sexual“ in combination with identities is generally used as an umbrella term.
Exact definitions of labels do not exist. It is much more likely that multiple definitions co-exist and change over the course of time. To know a person‘s label requires knowledge of the person‘s personal definition. Some people use several labels at the same time. The listed labels do not necessarily mean something different. In addition, the list is incomplete and only lists the most common terms. This explains why one should not label a person based on physical appearance, teach someone about their label or come up with assumptions like the popular prejudice that being bisexual always implies focusing on only two (binary) genders.
